Digital Ames Guide
A digital approximation of the classic draftsman's lettering tool. Drag and drop presets to get your hand lettering going, with support for 1/2 and 2/3 spacing, as well as the 68 degree italics slant. Includes versions for 300ppi and 600ppi for software the cares too much about resolution. Also includes bonus textures for quarter inch quad grids and dot grids.
Adjust the pattern scale to increase/decrease letter height, the default is approximately a 3 in Ames Guide marks, and is meant to work AT print resolution, not at the enlarged scan size.
This is a refresh of a utility I came up with when I was in school to bring the workflow of hand lettering to the digital medium. Is it truly needed? Maybe not. But it's true to the measuring conventions that governed nearly half a century of mainstream comics, so if that's what you are chasing then this is a great starting point.
